Nicole began cycling at the age of 11 and in only 5 years won her first national title. Her international career blossomed shortly thereafter winning in the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Injuries took their toll on Cooke for a few years, and then she began to get back in form in 2006 and early in 2007. She again was injured in 2007 but was able to come back in time to qualify for the 2008 games and win the gold medal. Her 2009 and 2010 seasons were successful and she is now gearing up for the 2012 Summer Olympics where she will have the home town advantage.
